The Wairau River Sauvignon Blanc is from a vineyard planted in 1983 on the northern side of the Wairau Valley. Offering fruit with very good intensity and weight this wine shows flavors that are in the tropical spectrum with notes of grapefruit, passion fruit, gooseberry, key lime, Meyer lemon, quince, yellow pear, and creamsicle to jalapeno. It is medium-bodied with lush ripe fruit and the refreshing zesty green notes for counterpoint. Clean and fresh on the finish, this would be delicious with a light dinner of tilapia with green beans. Planting on the alluvial soils of old riverbeds gives the wine a fine mineral acidity. This Sauvignon Blanc is produced in a dry style, with around 2-3 grams of residual sugar and a tightly wound pH to give a longer cellaring live of 2-3 years from bottling.
